In south Lebanon the practice of self-flagellation, bloodletting and other forms of self-inflicted torture is used to express deep mourning for the martyrdom of Shiite leader Imam Hussein in 680 AD and more recently has been engaged as a military tactic known as suicide bombing, this film explores the background and evolution of such martyrdom operations.
