Unworkable ensemble black comedy that wastes its good cast. The dysfunctional Collins family is forced back together to bury their toxic family patriarch (Torn). Accommodating granddaughter Kate (Deschanel) is expected to deliver the eulogy but neither her brooding father (Azaria) nor his crude brother (Romano) or their neurotic sisters (Winger, Preston) have anything good to say. No wonder all the bickering is driving Grandma Charlotte (Laurie) to multiple suicide attempts. And yes, the contrivances extend to a not-unexpected surprise at the reading of the will.
