An old-fashioned homage to firefighters begins when Jack Morrison (Phoenix) is injured and trapped in a burning warehouse. While his chief and mentor, Mike Kennedy (Travolta), coordinates a rescue effort, Jack remembers his first day as a rookie. The movie will continue alternating between Jack's career as a firefighter and his current predicament as well as his personal life, which includes his supportive, loving wife Linda (Barrett). That's pretty much it; you watch pros doing a job that can be very dangerous and how firehouse camaraderie helps them cope. The actors are earnest and the action convincing; it's not ground-breaking but it's not boring either.
