Light-hearted human comedy about sixteen-year-old, Shlomi, a mildly slow-witted Jewish boy juggling school, love, and the family circus at home. Willing to put his own interests aside, Shlomi dedicates most of his life to caring for his senile grandfather, cooking elaborate meals for the family, and falling behind in school. His secret joys come from poetry, snooping through his older brother's explicit diary, and daydreaming about the girl next door. A surprisingly warm Israeli film that manages to avoid the usual melodramatic pitfalls of most American coming-of-age flicks.
