McKay's "work-in progress" presents excerpts from a collection of interviews with hundreds of the biggest names in the history of American theater. Grouped by types of personal experiences rather than any chronological order of theatrical tradition or style, interviewees share stories about seeing their first play, arriving in New York, struggling to survive, auditioning, living on the road, and the thrills of opening night and a successful run. Includes some impressive archival material, such as part of a live recording of Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire." True theater worshippers will want to bask in every second but others may find the clips dull and redundant.
