Successful comedy-adventure mixes romance, espionage, murder, and melodrama amid the chaos of the Nazi occupation of France. In the role of a lifetime, Adjani is Viviane, an amoral movie star who's seeing government minister Beaufort (Depardieu) but gets humble former flame Frederic (Derangere) to do her bidding, including disposing of the body of a blackmailer (Vaude). Fred gets busted with the body, takes the rap, and winds up in jail only to escape with the help of resourceful criminal Raoul (Attal). Coyote does a turn as a spy posing as a journalist who also has a thing for the tres popular Viviane. The lives of all the characters intersect with interesting results in this not completely original but engaging and well-made romp.
