Coffee and Cigarettes Movie Review 2003

Director/writer Jarmusch returns after a five-year absence with these 11 short films inspired by or having to do with the two addictions of the title. Shot in black and white, the short vignettes feature a wide range of talent from Cate Blanchett to Steven Wright. Jarmusch filmed the shorts over a period of 17 years between projects, and while some of the episodes are better than others there are more hits than misses. The highlight is "Somewhere in California" featuring Tom Waits and Iggy Pop. Jarmusch again demonstrates why he is the king of independent film makers today.
