Wandering around with a wicked case of bed-head in a ratty old bathrobe and talking incessantly to himself, Johnny Depp cranks this ho-hum psycho-thriller up a notch with a typically quirky and subtly humorous performance as Mort Rainey, an eccentric mystery writer. After catching wife Amy (Bello) in the sack with another man (Hutton) Mort holes up in a remote lake cottage during his traumatic divorce only to be roused from his depression-induced torpor and writers block by Shooter (Turturro) a deranged hayseed in an Amish-looking hat who claims Mort stole his story. Mort, who is increasingly showing signs that he may not be playing with a full deck, is almost sure that isn't true and can prove it if he can only find the back issue of a magazine that published his story years before Shooter claims to have penned his. Adapted from a novella by Stephen King.
