Girl with a Pearl Earring Movie Review 2003

Based on the novel by Tracy Chevalier about the fictional relationship between the famous Dutch painter Vermeer and the servant girl who posed for his most famous work. Griet (Johansson, bearing an uncanny similarity to the actual painting) is sent to work for Vermeer after her father can no longer support the family. Vermeer (Firth) is intrigued by her intuitive sensibilities to art and soon has her helping in the studio and then posing for him. Johansson gives an exceptionally flawless performance in an intelligent and visually stunning film.
