Director Ron Howard successfully tries his hand at a gritty western. Blanchett plays Maggie Gilkeson, a mother of two daughters, who supports her family by working the ranch and serving as a healer to the community. Maggie is estranged from her father Samuel Jones (the perfectly craggy-faced Jones) who left her and her mother years ago to live with the Apache tribe. But she soon seeks her father's help after her oldest daughter Lilly (Wood) is kidnapped by an evil Native American shaman (Schweig). Blanchett and Jones both have the acting chops to keep this story interesting and well worth watching. Based on the Thomas Eidson novel "The Last Ride."
