True story focuses on a robbery that nets the thieves a windfall--and the problems that follow. In November of 1983, Mickey McAvoy (Bean) has set up a heist to rob the high-security warehouse of Brink's-Mat at Heathrow airport. The thieves are after gold bullion but what they find in the vaults are 6,800 gold bars, worth roughly eight times more than their intended haul. The police are quickly on to various members of the gang, but just what happened to all that loot? (Most of the bars have never been recovered; the police believe some were smelted down, but many may be buried. McAvoy was sentenced in 1984 to 25 years in prison.)
