Feelgooder inspired by the true story of the mentally disabled James "Radio" Kennedy (Gooding Jr.), who befriends the kindly local football coach (Harris) and becomes a beloved mascot of sorts in Anderson, South Carolina circa 1976. Coach Jones finds Radio (so named for his ample, much-loved collection of discarded radios) locked in a storage shed after being taunted by a few players and is determined to help him. Radio, in turn, ends up teaching the town a lesson or two about the Golden Rule. Top notch cast and script can't completely save the somewhat saccharine but nonetheless inspirational story. Based on a Sports Illustrated story by Gary Smith.
