Tame religious biopic follows the 16th century law student turned young monk who started the Protestant religious movement. Despite depicting a plethora of the remarkable moments that made up Luther's life, pic lacks focus that might have illuminated this important historical figure. Refusing to recant his beliefs, including the famous 95 Theses questioning Catholic Church practices, Luther was excommunicated, which sparked the Reformation and Protestantism. Fiennes gives an able but diluted performance in the title role while Ustinov as Prince Frederick is at his scene-stealing best.
