Vampires and Lycans (werewolves) wage a centuries old battle of survival. The aristocratic vampires have been in control, but the lycans have a plan to turn the tide. It involves human med student Michael (Speedman), who has the blood of both in his family. Head vampire warrior Selene (Beckinsale) inexplicably falls in love with him, precipitating a final showdown. Despite the almost constant gunplay and fight scenes, style vs. substance is the overriding battle here, even though it's no contest. Substance gets its butt handed to it, suffering from the absence of allies plot and characterization. On the bright side, Beckinsale can handle the action stuff, and looks great doing it.
