Based on the true story of Katie, which came to light in 1970. She is rescued from some 12 years of abuse and isolation imposed by her mentally unbalanced parents. Unable to speak and with no social skills, Katie is little more than a lab rat to a variety of psychologists and doctors who see her more as a case study than a person. Even her caring social worker Sandra (Errico) is unable to beat a system that just offers a different type of abuse to the young girl.
