In 1939, aspiring writer Frances Kroll (Campbell) interviews for a secretarial position with F. Scott Fitzgerald (Irons). Alcoholic, in declining health, and haunted by images of his institutionalized wife Zelda (Spacek), Fitzgerald hasn't published in years. She becomes his confidante and Fitzgerald is inspired to stop drinking and begin work on his new novel--a scathing indictment of Hollywood (which will become the unfinished "The Last Tycoon"). Based on the memoir by Kroll Ring.
