In 1944, young orphaned sisters Penny (Niccolai) and Baby (Campoli) are sent to the Tuscan countryside to live with their Aunt Katchen (Roselli) and German-Jewish Uncle Wilhelm (Krabbe). Although they have managed to survive the war so far, things worsen as the retreating German Army closes in on their small town and the family is urged to make their way to Switzerland. But Uncle Wilhelm doesn't want to leave his home. Based on the autobiographical novel by Lorenza Mazzetti. Italian with subtitles.
