Teenager Zoe (Zima) longs to escape her abusive homelife and explore her Native American heritage through a Cherokee spirit guide. So she and two girlfriends (who want to go to Hollywood) run away from home and start their journey, eventually crossing paths with middle-aged Englishwoman Cecilia (Seagrove) whose mother's last request was to have her ashes scattered in the mountains of New Mexico. Recognizing a kindred spirit, Zoe leaves her friends to follow Cecilia and find her spirit guide.
