New York adman Darrin marries a witch and hilarity ensues. Oh wait, that's something else. Okay, Darrin (Gooding, Jr.) is an adman in New York. . .for about 15 minutes. Before long he's unemployed and heading to his small Georgia hometown in order to collect an inheritance. Only there's a catch--he must return a gospel choir to its former greatness in order to collect. Wafer-thin plot is merely filler connecting the great gospel and R&B music that is the real star of this show. Beyonce Knowles is the love interest and mainstay of the choir, but she's only one of the prominent musical talents who help to raise this flick above the mundane. Shirley Caesar, Melba Moore, The O'Jays, Faith Evans, Eddie LeVert, and Montel Jordan are among the luminaries.
