In 1850, naive Annie (Dhavernas) agrees to an arranged marriage with Manitoba homesteader Simon (Fehr). But although Annie befriends Simon's younger brother George (Sevier), her husband turns out to be angry and abusive. So she kills him after he attacks her. At least that's what she tells constable Mullen (Johansson) when the half-frozen and terrified Annie stumbles into town from her wilderness home. But when Mullen investigates, he finds only more questions.
