Navy SEAL team, led by Lt. Waters (Willis), is sent into the middle of a Nigerian civil war to rescue Americans at a missionary hospital. When they get there, the doctor (Bellucci) refuses to go without the people she's been treating, who will surely be slaughtered by the rebels in the area. Waters defies orders to lead them all on a hazerdous journey out of the country. Fuqua follows up "Training Day" with this visually stunning, almost thoughtful battle picture. Until the film degenerates into standard action fare at the end, it aspires to answer questions about the difficulty of America's role as world cop and what makes a hero. Fuqua is aided immensely by Willis's stoic performance and the work of editor Conrad Bluff.
