Andie (Hudson) is a columnist who needs to date Ben (McConaughey) and then be so obnoxious that he will dump her in 10 days so she can write an article about it for Composure magazine. Ben has placed a bet with his colleagues that he can get any woman to fall in love with him in 10 days so he can get an account he wants. So while Andie is being the needy, clingy narcissic woman from hell, Ben patiently puts up with it for his own reasons. It's a universal rule that such contrivances in a romantic comedy guarantee that the two will genuinely fall in love. Unfortunately, the laughs are far too sparse and both characters too distasteful in their deceit for you to care.
