Estrogen-injected mob flick follows Meg (Sorvino), a med school grad who moves back to New York and takes a job waitressing in a mob-infested restaurant. Trying to divorce herself from a disastrous past, Meg gets wise to just which family owns this family-owned establishment. She's less than thrilled but the worst she has to deal with is reluctantly accepting money from their boss (Nascarelli), who admires her medical skills, and fending off advances from his odious son (Maelen), until she witnesses a murder and finds herself on the wrong side of the law. Plot contains interesting twists right down to the satisfying end. Sorvino performs ably while Walters is a standout and Carey proves she has stuff to make it on the big screen. Tired premise, however, takes some of the fun out this gangster chick flick.
