Futuristic fairy tale has pirate ships in space gracing this awkwardly mod animated update of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic "Treasure Island." Jim Hawkins (voiced by Gordon-Levitt, with singing voice of Rzeznik), the troubled teen hero, and a trio of irritating sidekicks take to the skies in their souped-up space galleon to find buried treasure on (where else?) Treasure Planet. Mutiny and other problems, including a looming black hole and space storms just as scary as the ones at sea, show up to threaten the mission. Innovative mix of hand drawn and computer animation is visually rich, even magical, at times but fails to fully delight.
