Jonathan Demme's remake of the Cary Grant-Audrey Hepburn vehicle "Charade" has the same Paris setting and convoluted plot, but not much of the carefree attitude of the original. Regina (Newton) comes home from a vacation and finds that her husband Charlie has been murdered, and that he was more than he seemed, as the police produce several passports that show Charlie with a different name and disguise. She also discovers that she now has a trio of her husband's former colleagues following her, looking for his hidden six million dollars. As an homage to the French New Wave cinema that was blooming when the original was filmed, Demme includes cameos of several luminaries of the genre.
