Fast forward "Almost Famous" thirty years and you'll find Kate Hudson has turned into her real-life mother, Hawn, who plays Suzette, a middle-aged former '60s/'70s "band-aid" turned, well, not turned at all, still living the wild, free-spirit life. Her partner in rock n' roll groupie-dom, Vinnie (Sarandon), however, has grown up and uptight; now she's suburban mom Lavinia living in the 'burbs. When Suzette loses her job, she drifts back into Vinnie's life and helps her get back to her sleazy, but more honest, roots. Sanitized-for-your-protection version of groupie life rings false throughout. Characters are essentially modeled on groupie legends the Plaster Casters. Material isn't worthy of these A-listers and nostalgia appeal runs thin. Amurri is Sarandon's real-life daughter.
