The Safety of Objects Movie Review 2001

The lives of four suburban families intersect in Troche's third feature, based on stories by A.M. Homes. Esther Gold (Close) is committed to caring for her comatose son Paul (Jackson), who was the secret lover of divorcee Annette (Clarkson), who makes a pass at lawn & pool guy Randy (Olyphant). Then there's Jim (Mulroney) who doesn't tell wife Susan (Kelly) he's left his job and whose young son is obsessed with his sister's Barbie-like doll. And Esther and Susan get involved in a contest to win an SUV and still the neighborhood's tentacles continue to spread among the inhabitants.
