When a robbery goes wrong in the town of Jericho, the three bandits--one of whom has suffered a serious head wound--leave a dead sheriff behind as they head out of town. The wounded thief is soon left to die but is found and nursed back to health by freed slave turned preacher Joshua (Coffee), who names the amnesiac "Jericho." As the two travel the countryside, bits and pieces of Jericho's past surface and he's drawn to his namesake town, where his past is finally revealed. The surprise ending feels tacked on rather than a part of the ordinary script but the two men's friendship is a bonus as is Coffee's affecting performance.
