One day, thirtysomething NYC architect Cal (Crudup) leaves his wife and son, gets into the family station wagon, and hits the road to drive cross country in this frustrating film. Although Crudup is a fine actor, the viewer never learns Cal's motives for leaving his life behind except that he's not the nicest guy around, considering the way he treats some of the people he meets on his trip, including construction worker Carl (Derricks) whose marriage Cal damages, and various female hitchhikers. Not a lot really happens as Cal searches for himself (apparently) and the film ultimately falls flat.
