A docudrama that explores the 1998 gay-bashing death of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. Shortly after the crime, Moises Kaufman (here played by Carbonell) and members of his New York Tectonic Theater Project arrived in Laramie to interview residents and others associated with the crime. Kaufman then adapted the transcripts into a stage piece, which debuted in Denver. Kaufman himself directs the film adaptation, which includes actual news footage interspersed with actor re-creations.
