Uninvolving WWII romantic drama based on the 1998 novel by Sebastian Faulks. Scottish Charlotte (Blanchett) is living in London when she meets dashing RAF pilot Peter Gregory (Penry-Jones). After learning that Peter has been shot down over France, Charlotte (who speaks perfect French) volunteers for British Special Operations and is sent to work with the Resistance in Vichy. Charlotte's contacts are Levade (Gambon) and his handsome son Julian (Crudup). Naturally, there are supposed to be sparks between the two but the romance fizzles rather than sizzles as does the film itself. Chameleon Blanchett and gruff Gambon are the main reasons to watch.
