Shyamalan takes on crop circles in this eerily potent psycho-thriller. Widowed father Gibson, a lapsed minister, lives on a farm with children Culkin and Breslin, along with younger brother Phoenix when things start to get strange. Everything seems normal, but even simple everyday actions are steeped in the brand of moodiness and unspoken dread that Shyamalan does best. By the time mysterious circles appear in the cornfields, it's clear that the question of whether or not aliens are to blame for the crop circles is secondary to how the characters will react. Quiet and intense, what doesn't happen is as important as what does in this top-notch suspenser. Film was shot in the director's native Pennsylvania.
