Director Lyne may be known for such hot-blooded features as "9 1/2 Weeks," "Fatal Attraction," and "Lolita" but he takes a cooler approach to adultery in this melodrama, which was inspired by Claude Chabrol's 1969 film "La Femme Infidele." Connie (a luscious Lane) is a suburban mom, complacently married to regular guy Edward (Gere), who cannot resist having a hot, hot, hot affair with French bookseller Paul (Martinez), whom Connie meets cute while shopping in New York. Edward gets suspicious, Connie tries to break things off, and it turns out there's nothing like a MAN who gets scorned to bring trouble.
