Cliche piles upon cliche in this story of Brooklyn street gangs in the late '50s. The Deuces, led by Leon (Dorff) and his hot-headed younger brother Bobby (Renfro), and their rivals the Vipers, go to war over turf when Vipers leader Marco (Redus) is released from prison. Drug-dealing Marco was responsible for the heroin death of their older brother Sal, and the brothers want to keep their streets clean, which also puts them in conflict with local mobster Fritzy (Dillon) and his thugs. There's even a star-crossed romance since Bobby loves Vipers girl Annie (Balk). Director Kalvert did better with teens and drugs and violence in "The Basketball Diaries."
