This is a big fat wet smooch of a movie--the kind you get from an enthusiastic older relative at a spare-no-expense wedding. Toula (Vardalos) is a frumpy 30-year-old waitress at her Greek parents' Chicago restaurant. They expect her to marry a Greek boy, have babies, and feed everyone. Then she meets handsome Ian Miller (Corbett), a non-Greek vegetarian schoolteacher who really, really likes her. Enough to want to marry her--if Toula's family can ever recover from the shock of her marrying outside their heritage. Every cliche imaginable is trotted out and you won't care as you'll laugh and groan at the too-recognizable family behavior (no matter what your ethnicity). Based on Vardalos' stage monologue.
