In the Time of the Butterflies Movie Review 2001

Based on the novel by Julia Alvarez, which was inspired by the true story of the three Mirabal sisters (collectively known as Las Mariposas) who fought against the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. After their father is murdered, Minerva (Hayek) persuades her sisters Mate (Maestro) and Patria (Cavazos) to join with the rebels in overthrowing the government to ultimately tragic consequences for the women.
