Widowed Mary McDonaugh (Laurie) is the matriarch of a dysfunctional Irish-American family. Four generations gather at her house for St. Patrick's Day where she announces she has taken the pledge and refuses to allows any whiskey in her home (which is ignored by certain members). As the day progresses, family secrets are revealed, including romantic feelings finally acknowledged, divorcing spouses, extramarital affairs, and other sexual shenanigans.
