The fictional memoir "The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer" was released shortly before the miniseries aired, rather than the movie being based on an already successful novel. The "Diary's" editor, Dr. Joyce Reardon (Travis), is a college professor looking for the supernatural inside Rose Red, a decaying mansion known for its strange history. She gathers together various paranormals, including autistic teenager Annie (Brown) who has strong telekinetic powers. The house begins to feed off Annie's energy and all hell breaks loose. Last role for Dukes (as Joyce's nemesis Professor Miller) who died during filming.
