The upper-middleclass Cazalet family has gathered for an annual holiday at the family country home in the summer of 1937, little anticipating what will soon befall them as war looms. The family has a successful timber business run by Hugh (Bonneville), who's in a loving marriage with the critically ill Sybil (Hille), and his womanizing brother Edward (Dillane), husband to fastidious Villy (Manville). Youngest brother Rupert (Rhys) is a poor artist with a flightly second wife, Zoe (Page). There are also various children, lovers, and servants all drawn together. Based on the novels by Elizabeth Jane Howard.
