Stirring adventure about the ill-fated expedition of Sir Ernest Shackleton (Branagh) to Antarctica in 1914. His ship, the Endurance, gets trapped in ice and eventually sinks, leaving Shackleton and his crew of 27 to set up camp on a nearby island. Shackleton and two of the crew set out for help to a whaling station on South Georgia Island--an unbelievably difficult journey of survival for those travelling and those left behind.
