Told in flashbacks, this is an old-fashioned WWII epic about heroism and romance. In 1950 in Czechoslovakia, Franta (Vetchy) is imprisoned by the Communists who fear the war hero's previous contacts with democracy. After the Nazis invaded his country in 1939, Franta fled to England, where he joins the RAF and befriends younger Czech pilot Karel (Hadek). But the duo have a falling out over a local woman, Susan (Fizgerald), who favors the mature Franta. Czech, German, and English dialogue.
