What appears to be a made-for-TV adventure trots out every known submarine movie cliche. The massively jawed Van Dien is Capt. Sheffield, who's been given command of the Lansing, much to the dismay of many of the boat's officers. A nuclear incident occurs while the sub is in the China Sea, and he must deal with uncertainties about a possible war and a mutinous crew. The pace moves along nicely and production values are on the high side.
