Yet another remake of the Dumas classic revenge tale with some beautiful cinematography by Dunn to distinguish it. Hero Edmond Dantes (Caviezel) is betrayed by best friend Fernand Mondego (Pearce), who wants his girlfriend Mercedes (Dominczyk) among other things, and unjustly imprisoned. Dantes learns of a great treasure from fellow inmate Abbe Faria (Harris), eventually escapes, finds said treasure, and seeks his revenge under the disguise of--well, you know. Pearce has fun as the foppish villain and Caviezel is suitably heroic.
