Friendship, rivalry, and jealousy between 19th century English romanticists William Wordsworth (Hannah) and Samuel Taylor Coleridge (Roache). In 1813, debilitated by opium abuse, Coleridge attends a reception for the now-distant Wordsworth and flashes back to their first meeting some 20 years before. Coleridge and his wife Sara (Morton) move to a country cottage with Wordworth and his sister Dorothy (Woof) living nearby as the two men collaborate on a poetry collection. Coleridge becomes (mutually) attracted to Dorothy and finds inspiration in drugs. A rift between the two men deepens when Wordsworth marries and Coleridge dependency on drugs worsens--even as his poetry soars.
