Carrey is a blacklisted writer who suffers from amnesia after a car crash. He winds up in a small town where he's mistaken for a presumed MIA soldier, who was the son of Landau, the local movie theatre owner. Darabont's self-admitted ode to Frank Capra evokes the All-American innocence and decency that Capra's films revelled in, but doesn't quite match the charm. Cynics will think it's too sentimental and tries to hard, romantics and others not quick to sneer at nostalgia should enjoy themselves. Carrey does a fine job with the lead role.
