In a film about the passionate relationship between two people, there's actually little heat to be found, although the leads are effective. Ambitious would-be writer James Joyce (McGregor) and hotel maid Nora Barnacle (Lynch) meet in Dublin in 1904. Nora soon becomes his muse, common-law wife, and the mother of his children but insecure Joyce is mistrustful of her faithfulness and the two are locked in a constant battle as they travel between Italy and Ireland and Joyce seeks to find a publisher for his work. Based on the book by Brenda Maddox.
