A womancentric version of the story of Camelot based on Marion Zimmer Bradley's 1982 bestseller. Morgaine (Margulies) is the niece of the Lady of the Lake, Viviane (Huston), who raises her in the mother/goddess religion even as Christianity takes hold of the land. Morgaine is reunited with her half-brother Arthur (Atterton), who is betrothed to the Christian Gwenhwyfer (Mathis), who falls for Arthur's best friend and knight, Lancelot (Vartan). But as the years pass, Viking invasions and familial circumstances threaten to tear Arthur's kingdom apart and Morgaine can only watch as the vision of Avalon disappears as well.
