Hackman is Joe, a master thief who's planning to retire after his latest job, but fence Bergman (DeVito) has other ideas, holding Joe's payoff until he agrees to a big-time gold heist. And just to make things interesting, Bergman sends his nephew Silk (Rockwell) along. This complicates things even more, especially with Joe's wife, Fran (Pidgeon). In classic Mamet fashion, doublecrosses, plot twists, misdirection, great dialogue and perfect casting convene to create an excellent caper film. Lindo and Jay add plenty of spark as Joe's loyal crew members.
