Francois Pignon (Auteuil) is a dull everyguy accountant who learns he's about to be fired after 20 years (from his job at a condom factory). His new (gay) neighbor Belone (Aumont) makes a unique suggestion--he will send doctored photos, showing Pignon at a gay bar, to Pignon's company and they will be forced to back down or be accused of sexual discrimination. Francois protests he can't pass as gay but he doesn't have to--his bosses and co-workers believe the rumors and make their own assumptions, including the homophobic personnel director Felix (Depardieu) who fears for his own job if he's not especially nice to Francois. Balances neatly between slapstick and sentiment. French with subtitles.
