Set during Israel's 1973 Yom Kippur War--named after the Jewish holiday on which Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack. Director Gitai's (a veteran himself) war drama concerns friends Weinraub (Levo) and Ruso (Ruso), who are in a rush to join their reserve unit. But their unit has already left, so they wind up in the company of Klauzner (Klauzner), a medic, and join a helicoptor rescue squad in evacuating the dead and wounded. It's a striking combination of commitment, tedium, frustration, fear, and disillusionment. Hebrew with subtitles.
